Proven Presentation Pointers

Proven Presentation Pointers

In November we hosted our Cotswolds Salesforce Community Group and were delighted to have welcomed three experienced speakers to share their impressive Salesforce knowledge through equally impressive presentations. We often find that the content shared by each of the speakers provides our Community with some excellent takeaways but how do they create such memorable content?

When developing a presentation, whether it be for an event or a business lead, you want the audience to be able to trust and engage with the knowledge you have available. Thus following a simple rule can work miracles in conjuring the perfect presentation.

The 10/20/30 Method

This particular method was brought to life by former Apple brand supporter turned true venture capitalist, Guy Kawasaki. After zoning out during multiple entrepreneur presentations, he began to promote the 10/20/30 Rules of Powerpoint.

So what are the rules?

Although extremely simple, the rules are effective and consist of the following steps:

  • Ten Slides: Realistically speaking, no-one wants to sit through a presentation with 60 + slides especially if you are trying to demonstrate a feature or onboard a new customer – the aim is to engage them almost immediately. Ten slides is the optimal number of slides that our speakers regularly share to ensure the individuals can digest & respond to the information available positively.
  • Twenty Minutes: In line with the ten slides, the presentation should be kept to at least 20 minutes. When organising our Community Groups we aim to keep each speaker slot between 20-25 minutes. This is the most challenging part but it always leaves people asking for more and creates positive discussions around the content.
  • Thirty Point Font: When was the last time you saw a presentation with paragraphs upon paragraphs of text – and the speaker proceeded to read it? Too much content can overwhelm viewers or they’ll read on themselves losing any connection made with the presenter. That’s why the final point in the 10/20/30 method is to keep font sizes at 30 or above!

So there you have it, proven presentation pointers to watch out for at your next event.  Are you ready to present but would like extra support? Our friends at SuperMums can provide plenty of advice to banish those pre-presentation nerves.
