Apprentice Hoots: Trailhead Mixes and Modules

Apprentice Hoots: Trailhead Mixes and Modules

As a Salesforce Apprentice, there is so much knowledge and experiences that await. This week, find out about Charlotte’s positive learning journey through various Trailmixes and Modules in her latest Apprentice Hoots blog.

Discovering Trailhead

Trailhead is a free online resource providing a number of resources and live access to Salesforce.com that can train/educate/inform anyone working in the Salesforce ecosystem with hands-on experience to learn digital and soft skills. Working through the modules, trails and trailmixes you can improve your skills, learn new ones and earn globally recognised credentials that demonstrate specific Salesforce expertise to employers, peers and the ecosystem.

I was first introduced to Trailhead by Paul (Founder & Principal Consultant here at Coacto) when I first applied for the apprenticeship role. As part of the interview process, I was told I would be completing a Trailhead module. Before I knew the exact module I was going to be given, I jumped onto Trailhead to familiarise myself with the platform. Like any new social media platform, when I entered the site I didn’t know where to start! It was a little overwhelming – there were so many modules, projects and superbadges, I remember thinking at the time “What is a Superbadge?!”

Mixes and Modules

As part of my apprenticeship with LDN Apprentices, Trailmixes (a collection of Trailheads) are suggested to help with my Salesforce and apprenticeship journey. Looking back when I first began collecting my badges, it felt like I understood nothing and I was just following a set of instructions.

I don’t know when it finally clicked, but the next thing you know I’m creating objects, custom fields, adding formulas and creating customer demos. My advice is to not be frightened or overwhelmed. When you first start on Trailhead, think of each badge that you gain as an extra piece to the giant puzzle of Salesforce! The more puzzle pieces you gain, the more clear the picture will become. Sound advice from Paul that I’d like to pass on!

Another useful tip if you are a Salesforce apprentice, is to connect with others, especially your peers. The lovely thing about LDN is not feeling alone whilst on your journey and I’ve been able to create some excellent working relationships. At the beginning, I was worried about the time it was taking me to complete Trailheads based on the suggested timings, but when I spoke to the other apprentices I realised that we were all in the same boat. Everyone’s learning journey is different.

Although it seemed like a huge challenge, it is a greatly rewarding experience when I look back at where I was to where I am now in just seven weeks. So keep up with the Trailheads but don’t forget to get your hands on some real-life customer experience too!

Owl see you later…

Charlotte
