Apprentice Hoots: Importance of Soft Skills

Soft skills are an important part of our day-to-day working lives, but how can you learn and develop them? Discover our latest Apprentice Hoots blog where Charlotte explains their importance in the tech industry.

What are soft skills?

I recently read an interesting quote that said “Salesforce is 10% technology skills and 90% people skills” and this is something that resonated with me. Although soft skills may seem simple, they can actually take years to develop.

Soft skills or common skills, are a combination of people, social and communication skills that can really help in work-life situations.

Developing my existing skill set

With my background as a beauty sales consultant, I have benefited from being able to adapt and develop some of my existing skills to be more effective in the tech industry. Some of these skills include my ability to open and close sales and I’ve been able to adapt my sales skills to sell the idea of Salesforce licenses and add-ons to potential customers in order for them to grow their business. I have also been able to develop my communication skills, verbally and non-verbally.

Learning a whole new skill set

Coming into the tech industry is a completely new experience for me. One where I have had to develop new soft skills. Since embarking on my Salesforce journey I have:

  • Improved upon my team skills
  • Worked on having a sense of calm
  • Focussed on being more time efficient
  • Developed my planning skills
  • Advanced my organisational skills
  • Evolved my presentation skills

BUT…it doesn’t just stop here! I have made it my personal goal to continue developing these skills (and learn new ones!) to increase my potential opportunities in the future and to become the best Salesforce Consultant I can be.
