Skipping Christmas? | Coacto Year of Change #10

Maybe skipping all of Christmas is a bit far, but what about making some changes to how you approach the holiday season? Many people skipped Black Friday and Cyber Monday by not buying anything – including many of us here at Coacto. This time of year can introduce ‘pressures of the season’ and we thought it would be good to share some thought on reducing those pressures and making time for the important things.

Buying Presents

Everyone loves getting presents, but you don’t always need more stuff! Maybe there are some friends of family who you could treat to a meal or a trip out? Why not make some memories instead and save on buying things which might not last.

Food Preparation

Busy household this year? Share out the food preparation! For some people, of course, cooking is part of the joy of Christmas. However, if that’s not you, then why not ask people to bring something along and share out the dinner courses? I’m sure they’d be happy to help out!

Rent your tree!

If you love the idea of a real Christmas tree but are worried about the environmental impact (or just the hassle of dealing with it after!) why not rent your tree this year? You can take it home to be decorated and enjoyed, and then return it to be re-planted until next year! No need for it to be thrown away, or for you to worry about looking after it yourself. (Here’s a link if you’re Cheltenham based like us!)

Foodbanks

Do you often end up over-ordering food? Why not take a few spare items to your local Foodbank. Christmas can be a hard time for some, and a spare box of mince pies or a packet of pigs in blankets would make a huge difference. You can find your local Foodbank here.

Finding time for others

Christmas is busy, always has been and always will be! Make sure you find the time to unwind with the people you love. It doesn’t have to be a crazy party (although it could be of course!) and maybe it’s just having a few friends over for some mulled wine. Whatever you decide to do, make it special for those around you and enjoy taking a break.

So, there you have it! No need to skip Christmas, but a few changes that can make Christmas a little bit easier and help you to focus on the important things. It is always worth allowing yourself the possibility of making changes, even at a time of year where traditions are so important. Make room for new traditions!

Most importantly, we wish you a very happy Christmas, from all of us here at Coacto.
