Reduce, Reuse, Re-purpose, Recycle | Coacto Year of Change #6

This week’s change is about thinking of doing things differently. Most of us have been recycling for many years now, but have you thought about reducing what you use? Maybe buying food differently, re-purposing things that are no longer needed, or passing them onto to others that could make use of them?

Coacto try to approach new systems and changing existing systems with the same philosophies.  Firstly, it’s important to try and create a strategy with an extensible architecture and a sustainable design and streamlined implementation.  We try to use what is already in place, either reusing or re-purposing. We try and follow a no code approach where possible, then if we need to a low-code path. So, we only go for a high code approach if that is the only option.

We are often dealing with deeply ingrained, convenient habits and these changes are hard to make.   Salesforce has created many technologies, including the recent lightning web components, that help support this approach with systems and application development.

Our key tip this time round is to share one of our favourite websites – freecycle.org. This is a site about reducing, reusing and keeping stuff out of landfills and the oceans.  Sign up to your local group and whenever you have something you no longer need, post it to the group. You’ll be amazed at what people can reuse or re-purpose! You can also get stuff for free too!

Time to make a change?

As you’ll know by now, the changes we are making as a company are just small differences, which we hope will have a larger impact. But changes don’t just have to be personal. Making a small change to your system or processes can have a much larger impact and improve the way your business works. We’ve recently proposed a change to one of our clients that is going to take around 4 hours work, but will save them 3-4 person days every week!

If you’d like some insight, why not get in touch? Whether it’s a small idea or a larger change – we’d be happy to be there as you go through it.
