Cotswolds Salesforce Community: Creating a positive ISV experience

Coacto alongside ProvenWorks were delighted to sponsor the Cotswolds Salesforce Community Group on Thursday 1st December 2022. Hosted in person at The Workplace in Cheltenham, the festive meeting was a great success with many members joining in person and online to listen in on Sam Walley, Melissa Hill Dees and ProvenWorks.

We’ve recently shared the key points from each speaker’s session including Marketing Cloud knowledge from Sam Walley and architect tools from Melissa Hills Dees. Now the series concludes with a summary of ProvenWorks session about ISVs.

Terrific team at ProvenWorks

ProvenWorks is one of the longest-established British Salesforce ISV partners. Founded in 2008, their expert team work to build solutions exclusively for Salesforce CRM, like AddressTools and SimpleImport, that empower users to be data heroes.

It was incredible to be joined by not just one, but three members of the team to share everything there is to know about choosing to work with the right ISV. The team provided a super interactive session and our thanks go out to:

  • Beth Clements: Customer Success and Operations Director
  • Ruth Cawdron: Marketing Manager
  • Callum Hurry: Director of Product Engineering

Creating a positive ISV experience

ISVs are a core part of the Salesforce Ecosystem – you’ll find thousands of apps on the Salesforce AppExchange! With so many to choose from, how do you know how a good relationship with an ISV should look? Beth, Ruth & Callum provided an inside scoop on how to best work with ISVs from a sales and marketing, support and product, and customer success perspective.

Kicking off the session, Ruth explained how important it is to shop around. Comparing solutions on the Salesforce AppExchange is usually a good place to start. It’s where you’ll find the likes of ProvenWorks and other trusted ISV providers. When on your shopping spree it’s essential to think about:

  • What are your non-negotiables?
  • Could there potentially be any surprise costs?
  • Bringing the right stakeholders together

Callum continued the presentation with details on how to manage the trialling phase. From testing to support and product development and releases, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of what is involved with your chosen ISV. Callum’s advice included:

  • Ensure that some form of free support is provided
  • Ask about other useful features to take advantage of
  • Understand the product roadmap and release history

Beth concluded the evening’s session with details on what happens once the shopping and trialling phase have been completed. Post purchase it’s best practice to receive a welcome pack from your chosen ISV. Some crucial questions to ask at this stage include:

  • What is your customer onboarding and renewal process like?
  • Does the support team use their own products?
  • Will you be notified of any app updates or enhancements?

See you in 2023!
